Life skills and everyday independence
Everyday independence can grow through small, useful steps. Tell Ava Aid which skills you want to learn or practise, and how you prefer to be supported as you work towards them in Melbourne or elsewhere in Victoria, subject to availability.

Practise a skill you choose
Life skills support focuses on learning and trying things with assistance. That is different from asking a worker to complete a household task for you. The starting point is something useful in your own day, at a pace that works for you.
Everyday examples
You might practise writing a shopping list and finding the items, follow the steps of a simple meal, or build a routine for getting ready for an outing. We shape the support around what you want to learn and the parts you want to do yourself.
Make the steps manageable
Explain what you can already do, where you would like help and how you like information presented. You might prefer a demonstration, a written sequence or time to repeat a step. Discuss how to review the approach if your goal or support needs change.
Keep the goal practical
Agree the activity, location, materials and support time before starting. Any equipment, ingredients, travel or activity costs need to be clear. Life skills support does not promise a qualification, financial advice or an assessment of your eligibility for funding.
Support in Melbourne and across Victoria
Tell us your suburb, preferred days and the support you would like. We will discuss availability, worker suitability and any travel arrangements with you before confirming your support.
Before you decide
Ask about the tasks, schedule, rates, travel, changes and cancellation terms that would apply to your arrangement. If you plan to use NDIS funding, clarify how the proposed support fits your plan and funding arrangements before committing.
Questions about everyday skills
Will the worker do the task for me? Discuss the balance between showing, prompting and hands-on assistance. The purpose of this service is to help you practise, while respecting what assistance you need.
Do I need to reach a set target? Start with a goal that matters to you and discuss realistic steps. Everyone learns differently. We can adjust the pace and approach as you discover what works for you.
Discuss your support
Start with your name, suburb or town in Victoria, the support you want to discuss and how you would like us to contact you. A family member, advocate or authorised referrer can help with your permission. Please do not send an NDIS number, plan or medical records with an initial enquiry.
